Q01: What is Modem Booster?
Modem Booster is a Web accelerator that addresses the main cause of slow Internet browsing- fragmentation of data during transmission. This utility tests modem performance and tweaks the TCP/IP settings accordingly via a systematic fine-tuning process.

Q02: What are requirements to run Modem Booster?
To run Modem Booster, you must have Internet Explorer 4.0/5.0 installed on your computer. Your service provider must be able to use Windows Dial-Up Networking, or is America Online, CompuServe 2000, Microsoft Network (MSN) or NetZero v3.0.4.

If your service provider is not compatible with the above mentioned, then refer to your provider to see if there any special methods to connect to their server with Windows Dial-Up Networking.

Q03: How do I configure Modem Booster to work with my ISP?
Start Modem Booster program and click on the menu item "Tools" -> "Configuration Wizard". Enter the your service provider details in the appropriate fields and you all done!

Q04: Can I use Modem Booster to optimize my connection with multiple ISPs?
You can optimize multiple ISP connections with Modem Booster. All you need to do is select the dial-up profile in the "Configuration Wizard" and run the tune-up test. Once that is completed, select the second dial-up profile and run the Tune-up again. When you going to dial up to a particular ISP, right click the Modem Booster dialer, go back to the "Configuration Wizard" and select the ISP you want to use.

Q05: How can I use Modem Booster dialer and Stay Connected! together?
To use Modem Booster and Stay Connected! simultaneously, run the two program and use Modem Booster dialer to dial-up to you service provider. Once a connection is established, left click on Stay Connected! tray icon to activate it. You will need to uncheck the dial-up option in Stay Connected!.

Q06:  Why do I need to use Modem Booster's dialer?
After you have run the Tune-Up test, you must use the Modem Booster dialer in order to benefit the speed increase. You cannot use some other default dialer as the saved optimal settings can only be used with the Modem Booster dialer.

Q07: Modem Booster asks for my AOL browser location. What do I enter?
The AOL browser location is where you installed the browser for AOL. For myself, my aol.exe file is in C:\America Online so I typed in: C:\America Online\aol.exe

For yourself, you will need to locate this aol.exe file and then do what I did above. Also ensure that you select the default screen name to use in the Configuration Wizard and that the screen name has the password store in the browser.

Q08: Modem Booster asks for my CS2000 browser location. What do I enter?
The CompuServe browser location is where you installed the browser for CS. For myself, my cs.exe file is in C:\CompuServe so I typed in: C:\CompuServe\cs.exe

For yourself, you will need to locate this cs.exe file and then do what I did above. Also ensure that you select the default screen name to use in the Configuration Wizard and that the screen name has the password store in the browser.

Q09: How do I remove the splash screen from showing up?
The splash screen cannot be removed. However, we will allow such option to hide the splash screen in one of the future version for Modem Booster.

Q10: I ran the tune-up test and don't see any improvement in my connection.  Why?
Continue to use Modem Booster dialer for a couple of more days and see if your Internet performance has improved. Sometime it requires a few restarting of Windows for the optimal modem settings to take effect. If you find that Modem Booster has increased your Internet surfing speed, then continue using Modem Booster dialer.

If you find there no improved in your Internet connection, then we suggest that you run the tune-up test again for a further accurate reading. We recommend that you run the tune-up test either late at night or early in the morning, when your service provider does not have many users.

If your service provider is using Windows Dial-Up Networking or Microsoft Network, then you can try changing the website address to download data to another site such as http://www.altavista.com/. By changing the website address can help in obtaining better results.

Q11: How do I remove those old profiles or screen name from showing up on my Modem Booster dialer?
There are currently no methods to removed those old profiles or screen name from the Modem Booster dialer. You will need to wait for a future release that allows users to remove those old profiles or screen names.

Modem Booster currently is not compatible with Apple/Macintosh computers.

Q15: What does a "RAS" error message mean?
"RAS" error message can imply to many factors. First ensure that your telephone line is free to dial to your service provider. Also check that you can dial-in to your service provider with Windows Dial-Up Networking. If you cannot connect with Windows Dial-Up Networking, then Modem Booster may not be compatible with your service provider.

Ensure that you have the latest patch for Dial-Up Networking for your Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000. You can download these patches from the Internet. Once you have installed the new patch, restart your Windows and run Modem Booster again.

Q16: I get "Failed to create empty document" error message.  What can I do? 
Please ensure that you have Internet Explorer 4.0/5.0 installed in your computer to avoid such error message.

Q17: Why do I get illegal operation or exception error?
To avoid such errors, try closing off all programs running on your desktop and tool tray. We suggests that you close programs such as Anti-Virus program and disable screen saver or power management features to avoid any errors when running a tune-up test. Once that all done, run the tune-up test.
